The Autism Alliance of Greater Kansas City exists to bring awareness and education to the issues affecting individuals living with autism spectrum disorders and their families.

Autism is America's fastest growing developmental disability.  Autism Spectrum Disorder generally appears between the ages of 15 and 20 months of age.  In many cases, the child is progressing and then begins to regress losing speech, social skills and physical abilities.  It is a lifelong disability with a normal life expectancy.

Autism affects boys four times more than girls.  In the United States over 1.5 million individuals have an autism spectrum disorder, making it more prevalent then Down Syndrome, childhood diabetes, and childhood cancer combined.  Fifteen years ago the occurrence was about 1 in 10,000.  According to recent statistics, today 1 in every 150 children is affected.  There is no known cure...but there is hope.
